Last year, I set 15 goals for myself and out of those 15 goals I achieved 9. This year I intend to surpass every single one of my 2018 targets. I realised that the out of the 15 targets I’d set last year the 9 I achieved were loosely planned. I had a vague idea of how I would achieve them but I hadn’t actually cemented any plans. September came and I was in panic mode because I’d only achieved 4 out 15. I had…Continue Reading “The Goal Mapper: A Practical Guide to a Glow Up”

As an African woman, hair is an aesthetic of identity; it connects me to my roots and it is politicised. This post isn’t about the historical, political or cultural significance of black women’s hair. It’s about my relationship with my hair. Despite not having an emotional attachment to my hair, I do have a personal and intimate relationship with it. I love experimenting with different hairstyles. Some styles are nostalgic and purposeful while others are accidental. I find the hours I spend changing from one style to another…Continue Reading “A Hair in the Life of Ruvimbo”

We live, we learn, we grow. At the end of each year, I take some time to reflect on the lessons I’ve learned through the year. I find it helps me set goals for the coming year and it also makes me feel good knowing I can quantify the growth. I want to share 8 lessons with you guys and to thank you for choosing to come on this journey with me. 1. Start with what you have Writer, Ijeoma Umebinyuo wrote, “Start now.   I had an interesting conversation with a friend of mine about social media, how we use it and how we feel about it. We talked about how much misinformation and harmful content we are exposed to and how necessary it is to filter out rubbish. We discussed how difficult it can be to be exposed to toxic views held by those we know personally. We observed, that in our everyday lives we categorise friends and family. For example, there are those we choose to share…Continue Reading “Social Media: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly”

I love to eat but I forget to eat when I’m busy. By the time I remember that I’m hungry I only have 10 minutes until I pass out. (I’m being a tad melodramatic but that’s how it feels.) This meal is so quick, easy and it tastes delicious. Ingredients half a medium sized red onion A handful of spinach 4 plum tomatoes large flat mushroom Mussels (Aldi has pre-cooked Mussels for less than £2. Save yourself the trouble of de-bearding) Garlic Butter White wine…Continue Reading “Mussels in Minutes”

Before I’d started my dissertation I had told my parents that once I’d finished I would be taking 3 months to myself to just do nothing. In those 3 months, I read fiction and I started cooking I again.  I sang, I started writing again and I experimented with fashion. I made chokers and up-cycled clothes I’d bought from charity shops. I’d put my adult life on pause and rediscovered my lust for life. I kid you not colours seemed to be brighter (glasses…Continue Reading “Graduating with a Pass: A Lesson on Personal Victories”

Ingredients 4 sirloin steaks 3 large Maris Piper Potatoes Green salad Salad Tomatoes Cucumber Seasoning Aromat Seasoning Black pepper I don’t like to add too much seasoning to my steak because you lose the taste of the meat.
